What do good Instagram ads look like? 10 real examples

The best Instagram ad examples open with one specific hook in the first line and show the product in use. Of ten live ads we pulled from the Meta Ad Library, nine are video, eight had run more than 270 days, and nine use a Shop now or Order now button.

Which Instagram ads open with a strong hook?

These three win the first second with one plain line: a question the right buyer says yes to, or a claim they can picture. Adespresso says shorter ad copy increases the chances people actually read it. Notice that each hook names a situation, not a feature. Long-running does not prove an ad earns money; it only shows the advertiser kept it on.

Moon Phase Prints video ad

Moon Phase Prints: a question about the night you met

The opening question speaks to a specific buyer, someone with an anniversary or engagement date. A woman holding the print with the caption 'My boyfriend got me this' shows it as a gift.

My Book Embosser video ad

My Book Embosser: a question every reader knows

The line about lent-out books names a small, familiar annoyance, and close-up hands pressing the embosser show the fix in one shot.

Emmafy video ad

Emmafy: a one-line claim about bag size

'The Mary Poppins of crossbody bags' sells capacity in a phrase, and the airport walk with a toddler shows a parent who needs it.

Which Instagram ads look like creator videos?

These four look like something a friend posted: handheld footage, a caption in the first frame, a real reaction. Evenbound describes video ads as moving content that uses autoplay to capture attention. For a small store, this style is the one that normally needs a creator or a day of filming, which is why we built AI UGC creator videos into ScaleShot (more on that below).

graacechang video ad

graacechang: a creator pack-with-me video

A real packing routine with the caption 'pack with me for a 2 week trip' lets the product prove itself, and the post-style caption reads as content rather than an ad.

All About Vibe video ad

All About Vibe: an unboxing reaction

A real face reacting to a custom dog-photo pillow does the persuading, and the copy gives a gift reason: dorm room, college.

Fable Pets video ad

Fable Pets: a POV room-and-dog video

The POV caption sets up a two-sided benefit, a side table for you and a den for your dog, and the first-order discount sits in the headline.

Nicolet.life video ad

Nicolet.life: a POV parenting demo

A mother on a play mat shows exactly how to use the cards with a newborn. The line 'Yes you can play with your newborn!' answers a worry before the viewer voices it.

Which Instagram ads lead with an offer or a brand story?

Sales and price ads put the deal on the image itself, while a brand-story ad introduces the maker. Adespresso's advice is to feature discounts prominently. If you want more image-only ideas, see our guide to static ad examples for small stores.

Qomfort Co. image ad

Qomfort Co.: a price-comparison image

A single product on a plain green background plus '$170 > $40' makes the saving readable in a glance, and the copy leans on 'viral' as social proof.

GOVEE video ad

GOVEE: a sale on a lit-up room

A short clip shows the lamp changing a dark bedroom, so the benefit is visible, and the 'sale' caption adds the reason to act now.

PashaPasha New York video ad

PashaPasha New York: a maker introduces herself

The artist introduces herself on camera, which suits a brand sold on its maker. It is also the only ad here that stopped running and points to an Instagram profile rather than a store, so it builds followers, not direct sales.

How to make your own Instagram ad from these examples

  1. Find ads in your niche. Open the Meta Ad Library, which Meta describes as a searchable database where people can search all active ads running across Meta products. Search a competitor's Page name and see everything it runs across Meta placements.
  2. Read the start date, not just the look. Start date is a useful signal, but the Library does not show performance directly, so treat long-runners as hints.
  3. Copy the structure, not the words. Use one hook line, proof of the product in use, one offer and one button, as in the examples above.
  4. Make three versions. Change only the hook, so you learn which line works. More formats are in our Facebook ad examples and Facebook video ad examples.
  5. Launch and check. Our guide to how to run Instagram ads covers setup, and Instagram story ads covers the vertical format.

We built ScaleShot for steps 3 and 4. You paste your store link, and the Ads Agent writes a 30-day plan and makes image ads and 4-10 second video ads, including AI UGC creator videos. Image ads cost 10-20 credits and video 10 credits per second. Plans start at $19.95 for the first 2 weeks, then $42 every 2 weeks, with 500 credits per period and a 14-day money-back guarantee. With a connected Meta ad account it can launch Facebook and Instagram campaigns, and it asks before it changes anything. It runs Meta only, does not guarantee sales, and Meta bills ad spend separately.

Common Instagram ad examples questions

Does a long-running ad mean it works?

Not necessarily. The Library shows no performance metrics, so run time is only a proxy. One of our ten, A10, has already stopped running.

How do I look up a brand's Instagram ads?

Go to the Meta Ad Library, choose your country and All Ads, then search the brand's Page name.

Should a small store use video or image ads?

Nine of the ten ads we checked are video, but Evenbound lists six types, including photo, carousel and Story ads. Start with the format you can make quickly. See more in our roundup of ad examples across formats.

Can I copy an ad I find?

Copy the structure, such as hook, proof and offer, and shoot or generate your own footage of your own product.
