How do you run Facebook ads for an Etsy shop?

For an Etsy shop, run a Meta Visitors (Traffic) campaign that sends clicks to your best-selling listings, starting around $5 a day. You pay Meta for the ads, not Etsy. Etsy's own Offsite Ads instead take 15% of an attributed sale while your shop earns under $10,000, then 12%.

What kind of Facebook ads work for an Etsy shop?

Most of an Etsy shop's buyers come from inside Etsy. Insight Agent says successful shops get 60-80% of their traffic from Etsy Search. A Facebook or Instagram ad is how you reach people who were not searching Etsy at all, so it should be simple and aimed at one listing.

Pick the Visitors objective (Meta calls it Traffic). It optimizes for link clicks and landing page views. The Sales objective reads Pixel purchase data to find buyers. ScaleShot's Sales campaigns need a pixel with Purchase events, and Visitors needs none. We haven't found a documented way to fire Purchase events from an Etsy listing page, so Visitors is the safe starting point. Etsy's Stats also show off-Etsy visits in one combined Traffic Sources view, with no UTM breakdown.

Advertise listings that already sell. Enrich Labs advises promoting only listings that show existing organic demand. A listing with no sales history is a poor test of an ad.

Show the product being used or made. Short vertical video is worth testing. Video ads averaged about 0.98% CTR against 0.88% for images in one 2025 benchmark roundup. A hand pouring a candle, a ring on a finger, or a name being engraved gives a scroller a reason to stop. For category-specific ideas, see our guides to advertising candles and advertising jewelry.

Time it to gift season. The holiday season is 30-40% of annual revenue for most successful Etsy sellers, and holiday searches ramp up in early October. Black Friday is November 27 and Hanukkah starts December 4 in 2026. The USPS Ground Advantage cutoff is December 17, before your processing time. Offers that fit are free shipping or gift wrapping.

How to set up Facebook ads for your Etsy shop

  1. Choose 3 listings that already sell, ideally with different price points.
  2. Create or connect a Meta ad account and set the objective to Visitors (Traffic).
  3. Make 2-3 creatives per listing: one product-in-use video and one clean image. In ScaleShot, add your logo, colours, fonts and voice, then ask the Ads Agent for image ads (10-20 credits each) and short video ads (10 credits per second).
  4. Launch to your connected Meta account. ScaleShot asks before it changes anything once ads are live.
  5. Run one campaign at a time and note the date. Etsy's Stats won't split Facebook visits by ad, so compare Etsy visits and orders by day against your Meta clicks.

How much should an Etsy seller spend on Facebook ads?

Start with a modest daily budget to test, and watch results before you scale. The Meta Pixel and cost benchmarks roundup from Bestever puts average retail CPC at $0.70. At that price, $5 a day buys about 7 clicks. Etsy conversion rates of 2-5% are the usual range. That works out to 20-50 clicks per order, or roughly $14-$35 of ad spend per order. This is our arithmetic, not a forecast, and cold Facebook visitors may convert differently from Etsy search shoppers.

Compare that figure with your profit per sale. Etsy's Offsite Ads fee on a $30 order is $4.50 at the 15% rate, and capped at $100 per order. Once your shop reaches $10,000 in sales over 365 days, Offsite Ads become mandatory, so price that fee into each item. For how far a small budget goes, read our guide to setting a Facebook ads budget.

ScaleShot runs Meta only, does not guarantee sales, and does not include ad spend, which Meta bills separately.

What mistakes do Etsy sellers make with Facebook ads?

  • Sending people to the shop homepage. Send each ad to the one listing it shows.
  • Starting too late for gifts. Orders placed after the December 17 USPS Ground Advantage cutoff may not arrive in time. Start testing in October.
  • Judging by Etsy Stats alone. Without UTM breakdowns, one campaign at a time is the only clean read.
  • Moving to Sales before the data exists. Meta's Sales objective needs Pixel purchase history. Without it, run Traffic first. If you also sell from your own Shopify site, that site can carry a pixel; see Shopify store ads.
  • Ignoring fee thresholds. The Offsite Ads rate depends on your shop's revenue. Check your rate in Etsy's Shop Dashboard.

Common Etsy Facebook ads questions

Can I put the Meta pixel on my Etsy shop?

We haven't found Etsy documentation that lets a marketplace shop add one, so plan on the Visitors objective. Meta's Sales objective reads Pixel purchase data.

Are Facebook ads better than Etsy Ads?

They reach different people. Etsy Ads is cost-per-click with a $1 minimum daily budget and shows your listing to people already on Etsy, while Meta ads reach people who weren't searching Etsy.

Does Etsy charge extra when my Facebook ad gets a sale?

The Offsite Ads fee applies to orders attributed to Etsy's Offsite Ads, meaning a purchase within 30 days of an ad click. We couldn't verify how Etsy treats your own Meta ads, so check Etsy's fee page.

Can ScaleShot make video ads for my product?

Yes. It makes AI UGC creator videos and animated styles such as claymation, 3D, paper cutout and stop motion, as 4-10 second clips.
